Bringing Durban Home

Directed by Thom Powers.

Narrated by Alice Walker, BRINGING DURBAN HOME weaves together the third World Conference Against Racism and footage from around the world to show you seven examples of struggles for racial and ethnic justice.

The third World Conference Against Racism was a significant milestone in the fight for racial and ethnic justice. The number of non-governmental and civic groups that were able to participate at Durban was record breaking, and the agenda set a precedence for addressing racism across the world as a violation of human rights.

Unfortunately, Durban did not receive much media attention. What little coverage there was focused on the U.S walkout and the Israel/Palestine controversy—overshadowing much of the political progress and the historical significance of Durban. BRINGING DURBAN HOME breaks this silence so that the dialogues at Durban can continue at local levels in our everyday lives.
